Amazonas Explorer reopened the Black Canyon of the Apurímac for the 2026 rafting season. The journey into the 3,000m-deep canyon featured stunning glacier views with alpacas briefly blocking the road and wild guinea pigs spotted nearby. A landslide had to be cleared before reaching the put-in. On the river, high-level class 4+ rapids delivered adrenaline-filled action, requiring careful inspection. Otters were spotted along the way, and the day ended with Swiftwater rescue practice and a few beers. As the rainy season ends, we hope to open the Granite Canyon soon.
