Wilderness Explorers

Local Operators

Offer exciting nature & adventure tours in Guyana

For 32 years, Wilderness Explorers has been operating nature, adventure, wilderness, cultural and community tourism tours across Guyana, Suriname and French Guiana and some of the less-known Caribbean islands. We offer tailor-made as well as small group tours and expeditions and work closely with local villages and the Guyana Tourism Authority to develop sustainable tourism products that benefit their communities as well as have a meaningful impact on the travellers that visit them. We are specialists in creating unique one-off experiences and themed journeys centred around culture, cuisine, birds, wildlife, women-only tours and other special interests.

Guyana’s leading destination management company since 1994, Wilderness Explorers offers quality culture, nature and adventure trips in Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana,Trinidad and Tobago, Grenada, Dominica and Barbados. We specialise in cultural and community tours, trekking, horse riding, expeditions, 4x 4 trips, diving, film production,, bird watching, wildlife tours and remote travel. Off the beaten track, Guyana offers some of the best untouched rainforest in the world with very good opportunities to see Jaguar, Giant River Otters, Giant Anteaters, Black Caiman and many other species plus over 800 species of birds. Here, in South America’s only English speaking country, you can experience the magic of staying in an Amerindian community, riding with cowboys and even playing cricket with the locals. Wilderness Explorers was one of the first tour operators to embrace community tourism, and in 2003 we joined forces with the Amerindian community of Surama and Rock View Lodge to form Community and Tourism Services (CATS). The company has the management and operational role at the Iwokrama Canopy Walkway which is the only treetop canopy in the Guiana Shield and Atta Rainforest Lodge. This partnership has been a success and is a model of how eco-tourism can work and bring real benefits to communities. Wilderness Explorers works closely with the Guyana Tourism Authority to train local communities to reopen their doors safely and to develop exciting new activities and lodges.
