When it opened in 1996, Kapawi Ecolodge set the standards for community ecotourism in Ecuador, promoting practices that protected wildlife, respected Achuar culture, generated local employment and empowered local communities.

Surrounded by rainforest and accessible only by small aircraft and river canoe, the lodge offers open-air social spaces, private bungalows overlooking the forest or wetland, and a sense of quiet immersion that allows guests to fully disconnect and settle into the Amazon’s natural rhythm.
